Coexistence and Connection: Redefining Geography Textbooks

Kiwook Kim’s project, “Coexistence and Connection,” challenges this convention by reimagining the geography textbook as a visually stimulating and intellectually engaging resource. Drawing inspiration from diverse fields, including art, photography, and the physical landscapes that geography seeks to explain, the design aims to foster creativity and curiosity among students.

One of the defining features of this project is its departure from the traditional textbook framework. The covers are adorned with intricate illustrations that reflect the diversity of the spaces people inhabit, echoing the core themes of geography—shape, climate, topography, and culture. The production process prioritizes both durability and sensory appeal. Utilizing advanced color foil techniques and robust coatings, the textbooks maintain vibrant colors and resist wear from frequent handling.
