The Elysian necklace stands out for its harmonious blend of materials and artistry. Crafted from solid 750 yellow gold, the necklace features a central piece that houses a vibrant green tourmaline and a uniquely faceted freshwater pearl. The design draws on the fluid, organic lines of Art Nouveau, with wing-like gold wire elements that frame the gemstones and evoke a sense of movement and delicacy.

What distinguishes Elysian is its innovative approach to pearl faceting. The freshwater pearl is cut using a novel technique that enhances its natural shimmer, a method requiring pearls with a thick, flawless nacre layer. This advancement not only highlights the pearl’s inherent beauty but also sets a new standard for contemporary jewelry design. The tourmaline, bezel-set with gold wire loops, adds a vivid touch of color, symbolizing the vibrancy of nature.

Functionality is seamlessly integrated into the design. The necklace is secured with a handcrafted clasp, ensuring both elegance and practicality. Measuring 42 cm in length, the piece is designed to complement a variety of outfits, making it suitable for both special occasions and everyday wear. Research for Elysian focused on pushing the boundaries of traditional jewelry-making. By exploring new faceting techniques and intricate wirework, Britta Schwalm demonstrates the potential for innovation within classic forms. The project, completed in Frankfurt/Main between April and July 2024, reflects a deep commitment to both technical excellence and artistic expression.

Elysian’s achievements have been recognized with the Iron A' Jewelry Design Award in 2025, a distinction honoring practical and innovative creations that elevate industry standards. The necklace not only pays homage to the elegance of Art Nouveau but also introduces fresh possibilities for the future of jewelry design.
