Port House: Aegean Elegance Meets Contemporary Living

Seamless indoor-outdoor design celebrates nature and modern luxury

Port House by Saffet Dikmen redefines residential design on the shores of Alachati, blending natural materials, bold aesthetics, and innovative spatial planning to create a tranquil yet vibrant family retreat.

Located in the renowned surf destination of Alachati, Izmir, Port House stands as a testament to the harmonious integration of architecture with its natural surroundings. Designed by Saffet Dikmen, this two-storey villa was inspired by its unique coastal setting and the lifestyle of a family of five. The design aims to foster a close connection with nature, offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and abundant daylight, while ensuring both private and communal spaces remain inviting and restful.

One of the defining features of Port House is its bold use of color and texture. The interiors are characterized by an open-plan layout, soaring ceilings, and expansive windows that invite natural light to illuminate the carefully curated wooden surfaces and iconic furniture pieces. The seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas enhances the home's versatility, creating spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional for contemporary living.

Material selection plays a pivotal role in the villa’s unique identity. Oak is prominently featured in the floors, ceiling beams, cabinetry, and doors, imparting a warm, natural ambiance. In select areas, oak is elegantly combined with marble, adding a touch of sophistication. All wood and stone work was executed in collaboration with local artisans, reflecting a commitment to craftsmanship and regional authenticity. Despite its design as a summer residence, the house is equipped with infrastructure to support comfortable living throughout all four seasons.

Spanning 250 square meters across two floors and set within five acres of landscaped gardens, Port House offers four en-suite bedrooms, a double-height living area, a dining room, a kitchen, and dedicated service spaces. The layout ensures a smooth flow between zones, with the entrance leading to three bedrooms on the first floor and a semi-open corridor connecting to the ground-floor living spaces. Sliding doors and large windows blur the boundaries between the interior and the lush garden, while a private jetty and shoreline provide direct access to the sea.

The design process was informed by extensive research into the site’s topography, climate, and the homeowners’ aspirations for a serene yet modern sanctuary. Advanced CAD modeling facilitated the optimization of natural light and spatial organization, while local materials and cultural references were thoughtfully integrated to create a sense of place. The result is a home that not only meets the practical needs of its residents but also embodies a refined, timeless aesthetic.

Port House has garnered international recognition, earning the Silver A' Design Award for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design in 2025. This accolade highlights the project’s exceptional technical execution, artistic vision, and its ability to evoke wonder and delight in both residents and visitors alike.

Port House exemplifies how thoughtful design can elevate everyday living, offering a sanctuary where nature, comfort, and artistry coexist in perfect balance.
