Happy Excursion: A Sanctuary of Serenity in Shenzhen

Nestled in the heart of Shenzhen’s dynamic development zone, Happy Excursion draws from the timeless wisdom of Zhuangzi’s “A Happy Excursion.” The design channels the poetic imagery of Butterfly Isle, Northern Abyss, and Whale Cliff, creating a space that embodies freedom and tranquility. This visionary approach offers a refuge from the demands of urban life, inviting visitors to reconnect with nature and themselves.

The project’s uniqueness lies in its meticulous fusion of structure, form, and material. Every element, from the stone-textured flooring reminiscent of the blue Danube to the soft linen curtains, is chosen to evoke the richness of southern living. The design encourages guests to immerse themselves in the vastness of the sky and the softness of clouds, fostering a profound sense of openness and peace. The use of organic materials and a balanced color palette honors local heritage while embracing contemporary aesthetics.

Central to the exhibition hall is a striking 3D wall crafted from Fantasy White Jade stone. This feature wall, bathed in shifting natural light, transforms throughout the day—its dynamic sheens and dimensionality offering a fresh visual experience with every visit. The interplay of light, texture, and form engages the senses, reinforcing the space’s connection to the natural world.

Innovative techniques further elevate the design. The skylight panel employs a cutting-edge light film, casting ethereal lighting effects that infuse the space with energy and airiness. The Amazon green floor, with its gentle wave patterns, radiates warmth and vitality, while layered landscape painting curtains create a dramatic focal point. Each detail, from the careful selection and finishing of wood veneers to the integration of water-like flooring, reflects a commitment to craftsmanship and harmony.

Spanning approximately 418 square meters, Happy Excursion stands as a testament to thoughtful research and creative problem-solving. The design team, including Na Wang, overcame technical challenges to achieve a perfect balance between sophistication and natural beauty. Their efforts have been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award, celebrating the project’s artistic excellence and innovative spirit.
