Wings, a sideboard designed by Yilmaz Dogan, draws its inspiration from the symbolic and aesthetic power of wings in both Gothic and Art Deco traditions. In Gothic architecture, wings evoke the presence of angels and a sense of spirituality, while Art Deco interprets them as icons of speed and progress. The design channels these motifs to reflect humanity’s enduring aspirations for freedom and elevation, both physically and spiritually. Distinguished by its fusion of styles, Wings stands out through its hand-carved copper wing details, which are meticulously engraved onto the dark-toned wooden cabinet surfaces. The realization of Wings involved advanced CNC cutting techniques combined with traditional handcrafting. Each copper-coated wing detail is integrated seamlessly into the body, while a matte lacquer finish ensures a subtle play of light and shadow. The handcrafted copper legs, shaped organically, contribute to the dynamic presence of the piece. Inside, velvet-textured compartments offer both luxury and practicality, catering to the storage of valuable items.

Functionality is enhanced by a specially designed door mechanism that opens with a gentle touch, revealing the opulent interior. The concealed hinge system preserves the uninterrupted flow of the cabinet’s surface, reflecting a commitment to both form and function. Developed in Ankara, Türkiye, and completed in 2024, Wings is the result of extensive research into the historical and symbolic use of wing forms in architecture and design. The project overcame significant challenges, including the flawless three-dimensional modeling of the wing surfaces and the creation of an invisible hinge mechanism. These solutions underscore the innovative spirit behind the piece, which was recognized with the Iron A' Furniture Design Award in 2025 for its integration of best practices and technical excellence.
