Jazz Bookcase: Art Deco Elegance Meets Modern Innovation

Inspired by the geometric elegance and vibrant energy of the 1920s, the Jazz Bookcase channels the era’s iconic Art Deco motifs and the lively ambiance of jazz clubs. Yilmaz Dogan drew from the saxophone’s curving silhouette, translating its melodic flow into the bookcase’s fluid side panels. The design’s illuminated interior evokes the warm glow of historic nightclubs, infusing living spaces with a sense of nostalgia and sophistication.

Distinctive for its sculptural form, the Jazz Bookcase stands apart through the integration of LED lighting that creates soft, dynamic color transitions. This interplay between light and material transforms the bookcase into an artistic statement, elevating it beyond conventional storage. The copper-colored interior, contrasted by a matte black lacquer exterior, deepens in hue under illumination, enhancing the piece’s visual allure and establishing it as a focal point within any room.

Advanced production techniques underpin the Jazz Bookcase’s realization. CNC-cut wood panels and laser-cut metallic details ensure precision and structural integrity, while a special copper coating responds to changing light conditions. The integrated LED strips are engineered to diffuse light evenly, casting a gentle, dimmed glow reminiscent of jazz club atmospheres. Measuring 130 cm in width, 224 cm in height, and 40 cm in depth, the Jazz Bookcase features five spacious compartments. Its curved structure encourages intuitive organization, allowing books and decorative objects to be displayed with flair. The lighting system is designed to interact dynamically with both the user and the surrounding environment, adapting to different moods and preferences, and transforming the bookcase into a versatile, decorative centerpiece.

The development of the Jazz Bookcase involved extensive research into the synthesis of Art Deco design, jazz music, and interior lighting. Overcoming the challenge of achieving seamless harmony between light and form, the design team developed specialized diffusion techniques to ensure flawless illumination across the copper surfaces.
