Quinton: A Modern Take on Mid-Century Residential Design

Located in Bandar Seri Coalfields, Sungai Buloh, Malaysia, Quinton stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of mid-century architecture, thoughtfully updated for contemporary lifestyles. The project, completed in April 2024, draws inspiration from the clean lines and organic forms characteristic of mid-century design, while introducing fresh, modern touches. Central to the concept is the use of natural marble, chosen for its unique patterns and luxurious presence, which serves as a focal point throughout the home.

Quinton’s interior spans 225 square meters within a 13 by 20 meter plot, offering a spacious yet intimate environment. The open-plan layout encourages seamless movement between living zones, while custom cabinetry and carefully placed furniture define distinct areas without sacrificing flow. Large windows invite abundant natural light, forging a strong connection to the outdoors and infusing the space with warmth and vitality.

The design process combined traditional craftsmanship with advanced techniques. Bespoke millwork and cabinetry were meticulously crafted to reflect mid-century details, ensuring both aesthetic integrity and modern functionality. The selection and installation of natural marble slabs required extensive research and collaboration with artisans, resulting in surfaces that are both visually striking and unique to the residence.

One of the main challenges faced by the design team was harmonizing mid-century elements with the demands of contemporary living. Achieving the right balance of pattern and color in the marble, while integrating custom details, demanded precision and close cooperation among designers and fabricators. The result is a home that feels both timeless and current, where every detail—from material selection to spatial planning—serves to enhance comfort and elegance.

Quinton’s success has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design for 2025. This accolade highlights the project’s creative ingenuity and its contribution to quality of life improvements through the integration of art, science, and design.
