VivaCyte: Transforming Cell Therapy with Smart Software

Innovative suite streamlines biomedical workflows and accelerates research

VivaCyte, designed by Livia Stevenin and team, redefines cell therapy development with an integrated software platform that enhances efficiency, accuracy, and user experience for researchers and clinicians.

VivaCyte emerged in response to the pressing need for faster, more reliable cancer cell therapies. The platform addresses the challenges of complex, labor-intensive workflows by offering an intuitive, automated solution. By integrating advanced automation and high-throughput analysis, VivaCyte empowers researchers to focus on innovation, reducing the burden of manual processes and minimizing human error. This approach not only accelerates therapeutic advancements but also improves patient care outcomes.

The software suite is comprised of two main components: Control Software (CSW) and Analytical Software (ASW). CSW enables users to launch and manage biological tests with ease, while ASW extracts and presents key insights from experimental results. The design prioritizes scalability and usability, allowing seamless navigation through intricate workflows. AI-driven automation further enhances accuracy and efficiency, ensuring that researchers can configure tests and analyze data with minimal effort.

The development of VivaCyte was grounded in extensive user research. The design team, led by Livia Stevenin, shadowed biologists in laboratory settings and conducted in-depth interviews to understand real-world challenges. Collaborative workshops, such as User Journey Mapping, brought together scientists and developers to refine the platform’s features. This research-driven process resulted in a custom design system, ensuring consistency and optimal usability across all interfaces.

Technologically, VivaCyte leverages Figma for design, React JS for front-end development, and the Bento design system for cohesive user experiences. The platform’s AI-driven features not only streamline data analysis but also support regulatory compliance, a critical factor in the biomedical field. Features like printable maps and guided setup walkthroughs were introduced based on direct feedback from users, significantly reducing errors and improving workflow efficiency.

VivaCyte’s impact has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in Interface, Interaction, and User Experience Design for 2025. This accolade highlights the platform’s excellence in technical innovation and artistic skill, setting a new standard for biomedical software solutions. By simplifying complex tasks and accelerating research, VivaCyte stands as a testament to the power of user-centered design in healthcare innovation.

As cell therapy continues to advance, platforms like VivaCyte will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of biomedical research. The project’s success demonstrates the value of integrating automation, intuitive design, and collaborative research, offering a blueprint for future innovations in the field.
