Located in Nantou, Taiwan, Deer Chaser Yuchi stands as a testament to innovative hospitality, inspired by the rising popularity of glamping. The resort’s design draws from the inner courts of traditional Taiwanese farmhouses and the communal imagery of gathering beneath a tree, creating spaces that foster both harmony with nature and meaningful human connections. This approach reflects a broader movement in lifestyle design, where cultural authenticity and environmental integration are paramount.
Chi Wei Shih’s concept, “the more local, the more international,” sets Deer Chaser Yuchi apart from conventional hostels. By embedding distinct local characteristics and cultural elements, the resort strengthens bonds between guests and their surroundings, as well as among the guests themselves. The property’s open and independent private common areas encourage exploration and cohesion, inviting travelers to experience a sense of community rarely found in traditional hospitality settings.
The realization of this vision involved innovative architectural solutions. The design harmonizes with the natural riverside setting by incorporating principles of water gathering and a bald cypress boulevard, seamlessly blending built and natural environments. Structural engineering features such as concrete load-bearing wall panels, transparent partitions, and a steel-framed tree house presented significant technical challenges, ultimately resulting in a rejuvenating and immersive travel experience.
Spanning approximately 1,720 square meters, the resort emphasizes “wild luxury” through outdoor bathing spaces and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that invite the outdoors in. Interconnected private courtyards encourage guest interaction, while artisanal craftsmanship and regional cuisine further anchor the experience in local culture. This holistic approach not only pays homage to tradition but also appeals to an international clientele seeking authenticity and connection.
Deer Chaser Yuchi’s excellence has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in Hospitality, Recreation, Travel, and Tourism Design for 2025. This accolade highlights the project’s contribution to advancing the boundaries of art, science, and design, and its role in shaping the future of lifestyle-oriented hospitality. By seamlessly integrating heritage, innovation, and nature, Deer Chaser Yuchi offers a blueprint for resorts worldwide aiming to create meaningful, place-based experiences.
As travelers increasingly seek destinations that offer both luxury and authenticity, Deer Chaser Yuchi exemplifies how thoughtful design can foster community, celebrate local culture, and harmonize with the environment, setting a new standard for the future of glamping and resort living.
