Innovative glass facade redefines workplace architecture in Ellinikon

Located in Ellinikon, Athens, the Serrated Transparency office building by Potiropoulos and Partners stands as a bold statement on Vouliagmenis Avenue, offering unobstructed views of the sea. The structure distinguishes itself within a context of mixed-use buildings, many of which lack architectural distinction. The design employs a simple trapezoidal massing that maximizes site potential while addressing a prominent urban corner, creating a strong visual anchor in the area.

The building’s most distinctive feature lies in its facade. Straight and curved glass sections form a serrated edge, reflecting sunlight in ever-changing patterns. This approach not only alters the building’s transparency from different perspectives but also generates a cinematic sense of movement as passersby engage with the structure. The interplay of smooth floor layouts and the striated facade introduces a dialogue between simplicity and complexity, enhancing both the building’s aesthetic and its environmental responsiveness.

Central to the design is a spacious atrium, which perforates the floor plates and brings natural light deep into the interior. This atrium, combined with the facade’s geometric ambiguity, blurs the boundaries between inside and outside. Reflections of surrounding greenery on the glass surface further integrate the building with its landscape, creating a harmonious relationship between built form and nature.
