Art in the Soul: Elevating Office Design with Artistry

Sema Yazici’s Istanbul office blends art, light, and motivation

Art in the Soul, designed by Sema Yazici, reimagines the modern office as a space that reflects individuality and creativity, prioritizing employee motivation and a sense of belonging through artful integration and thoughtful spatial planning.

Located in Istanbul, this award-winning office project challenges conventional corporate environments by placing art and timeless design at its core. Sema Yazici’s vision was to create a workspace that mirrors the soul of its occupants, rather than simply showcasing organizational strength. The result is a 250-square-meter office that seamlessly merges functionality with aesthetic refinement, offering an inspiring environment for both employees and visitors.

The design features a modern, minimalist approach, highlighted by an open layout, a spacious balcony, and expansive glass facades that maximize natural daylight. The transformation from a basic shell to a sophisticated office was achieved through the strategic use of materials and artistic elements. Veined grey marble, shimmering with sand inclusions, covers the reception and meeting room floors, while wood veneer cladding and a sculptural marble reception counter add warmth and visual interest. Artworks and sculptures are thoughtfully placed to greet visitors and set a creative tone from the entrance.

Distinct zones within the office cater to various needs. The executive office boasts fish-scale patterned parquet flooring, decorative wall paint, and a multifunctional work desk. Marquetry veneer cabinetry with brass accents and curated paintings enhance the sense of sophistication. Common areas utilize sound-insulating carpets and cohesive color schemes, while decorative elements such as hanging birds and floral arrangements foster a welcoming atmosphere. Glass partitions ensure transparency and allow daylight to flow throughout the workspace, reinforcing the connection with the outdoors.

Functionality is carefully balanced with design. The office includes a reception, meeting rooms for both large and small groups, executive offices, a kitchenette, lounge, and technical spaces. Each area is designed to optimize space utilization and create seamless transitions between work, social, and private zones. The main entrance features a solid wall for privacy, while the glazed facade bathes work areas in natural light, supporting employee well-being and productivity.

Research and meticulous planning underpin the project’s success. Special attention was given to ensuring that every visitor and employee experiences a sense of curated artistry upon entry. The interplay of sculpture, vibrant paintings, and transparent surfaces distinguishes the office, while careful material selection and spatial organization maintain unity and harmony. Overcoming the challenge of integrating diverse materials and functions, the design achieves a cohesive and motivating environment.

Recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2025, Art in the Soul exemplifies how innovative office design can foster creativity, motivation, and a sense of belonging. Sema Yazici’s approach demonstrates that workspaces can be both practical and inspiring, setting a new standard for contemporary office environments.
