Subtle Interplay of Ink and Glow: Riverside Serenity

Jen Liu crafts a sustainable, light-filled Taipei residence

Located along the riverside in Taipei, "Subtle Interplay of Ink and Glow" reimagines residential living through a seamless fusion of form, function, and environmental responsibility. The project leverages its prime location with expansive French doors and an open floor plan, allowing natural light and scenic views to permeate every corner. The integration of a half-glass partition in the multifunctional room and the removal of existing walls further enhance the sense of openness, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.

Central to the design is a commitment to sustainability. The residence is constructed using eco-friendly, recyclable materials and features energy-efficient LED lighting and advanced appliances. This focus on non-toxic, enduring comfort aligns with Jen Liu’s philosophy of prioritizing healthy living environments. The result is a home that not only meets the needs of modern lifestyles but also contributes to long-term well-being and environmental stewardship.

The interior palette is a sophisticated blend of slab tiles in white, gray, and black, complemented by gray plaster walls. Warmth is introduced through wood panels, flooring, and burnt orange furnishings, cultivating a rustic yet contemporary solace. This thoughtful combination of materials and colors creates a tranquil backdrop that enhances the riverside ambiance and fosters relaxation.

Functionality is seamlessly woven into the design. The kitchen island serves as the heart of the home, offering ample storage, a prep station, and a versatile space for both dining and study. The multifunctional room, equipped with a desk and a raised platform by the window, adapts effortlessly between study and guest room. Adjustable blinds on the glass partition provide privacy without sacrificing the sense of connection between spaces.

Spanning 99.17 square meters, the project was completed between October 2023 and January 2024. Its innovative approach and commitment to quality have earned it the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2025, recognizing its excellence in integrating art, science, and technology to enhance quality of life.
