Kyiv’s iconic chestnut trees have long symbolized the city’s resilience and beauty, inspiring countless artists and designers. Inna Kovalenko’s Castanea Nectar packaging draws on this rich heritage, presenting chestnut honey as more than a culinary delight—it becomes a tangible piece of the city’s soul. The design’s watercolor illustrations evoke the delicate blossoms and leaves of the chestnut tree, while the logo’s smooth, viscous lines mirror the honey’s density and richness. A small bee, central to the logo, connects the product to the natural world and the diligent craftsmanship behind each jar.
Every element of Castanea Nectar’s visual identity was meticulously crafted to create a sense of comfort and nostalgia. The packaging’s strict yet elegant shapes allude to the strength of the chestnut tree, while the soft watercolor technique introduces a feeling of lightness and warmth. The result is a harmonious blend of color, form, and typography, making each jar not just a product but a meaningful gift—suitable for loved ones or business partners alike.
The production process relied on advanced digital tools, with the logo developed in Illustrator and supporting graphics rendered in Photoshop. The technical specifications ensure both aesthetic appeal and practicality: a 250-gram glass jar with a diameter of 70–80 mm, a 125×55 mm label, and an 85×85×110 mm box. These dimensions were chosen to enhance the unboxing experience and highlight the product’s exclusivity.
Market research played a crucial role in shaping Castanea Nectar’s identity. Analyzing the honey market and its unique flavor profiles, the design team sought to create a concise, memorable name and a visual language that would resonate with consumers. The creative challenge lay in balancing natural authenticity with modern elegance, ensuring the packaging reflected both the taste and aroma of chestnut honey and the vibrant spirit of Kyiv.
Castanea Nectar’s recognition with a Bronze A' Packaging Design Award in 2025 underscores its success in merging art, science, and technology. The design not only elevates the product’s perceived value but also contributes to a broader appreciation of Ukrainian culture and craftsmanship. As a gift, Castanea Nectar offers warmth, health, and a lasting connection to the heart of Kyiv, making it a standout example of innovative packaging design.
By encapsulating the essence of Kyiv’s chestnut trees in both form and function, Castanea Nectar demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform everyday items into cherished experiences, bridging tradition and modernity for a global audience.
