Brilliant Milky Way, designed by YS. Interior Studio, transforms a 59.5-square-meter residence into a serene, galaxy-inspired haven. Drawing on the homeowner’s affinity for black, white, and gray, the design achieves understated elegance while maintaining visual depth. Warm lighting and contrasting materials soften the cool palette, creating an inviting atmosphere that balances sophistication with comfort. Reflective elements, such as black mirrors and metal trims, evoke the shimmering brilliance of a starry sky, setting the tone for the entire space.

The living room’s TV wall serves as the focal point, featuring a large marble surface reminiscent of a celestial expanse. Black mirrors and metal trim panels add dimension, while curved metal film on wood panels introduces gentle movement, breaking away from rigid lines. This interplay of materials and forms not only enhances the room’s aesthetic appeal but also contributes to a sense of flow and tranquility throughout the home.

Functionality is seamlessly integrated into the design, with ample storage solutions thoughtfully concealed within the layout. The kitchen island exemplifies this approach, offering appliance storage on one side and a recessed area for strollers and shopping bags on the other. The entrance hall boasts a full wall of storage illuminated by indirect lighting, ensuring a clutter-free and visually clean environment. These meticulously planned features address the practical needs of daily living while preserving the minimalist ethos.

Material selection plays a pivotal role in the project’s success. Light-toned surfaces are paired with dark system panels, natural marble, and matte metallic finishes to create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. Doors finished with a special baking paint technique provide a subtle, matte metallic texture, allowing light to gently diffuse and enhancing the space’s refined ambiance. The open-plan kitchen, transformed from its original semi-enclosed state, maximizes natural light and visual continuity, making the compact residence feel expansive and airy.

Brilliant Milky Way’s thoughtful design extends to its technical execution. The project required adjustments to existing plumbing and wiring, as well as careful coordination of air conditioning and ceiling structures to optimize space. Achieving seamless transitions between marble, mirrors, and curved wood panels on the TV wall presented a unique challenge, expertly resolved by aligning material thicknesses for a cohesive finish. These details underscore the studio’s commitment to both artistry and precision.

The residence’s success is reflected in its recognition at the 2025 A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, where it received the Bronze distinction. By merging best practices in art, science, and technology, Brilliant Milky Way not only elevates the quality of life for its inhabitants but also sets a new standard for modern, minimalist living.
