Skyline Stories stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of trade show architecture, drawing direct inspiration from the soaring skyscrapers and cascading forms of Manhattan. The design reimagines the verticality of urban environments through a series of LED-clad towers, echoing the city’s dynamic skyline. The inclusion of elevated gardens and multimedia displays reflects a growing trend in urban development—balancing technological innovation with natural elements. This approach not only pays homage to the Flatiron Building, where Aluprof played a pivotal role in its renovation, but also demonstrates the potential of architectural storytelling at full scale.
What sets Skyline Stories apart is its bold departure from conventional fairground layouts. The exhibition stand features an elevated upper level, creating double-height spaces that allow products to be displayed at their true architectural scale. Multimedia towers, reaching an impressive 6.5 meters, serve as both visual anchors and dynamic content platforms, immersing visitors in a city-like atmosphere. The introduction of a cantilevered balcony, suspended above the crowd and adorned with vertical gardens, adds a surprising natural dimension, inviting visitors to explore the space from multiple vantage points.
The realization of this ambitious design required innovative engineering solutions. Custom steel columns support a 4.2-meter elevated floor, while a specialized 10.5-meter beam enables open-span displays without visual interruption. Concealed floor bases stabilize the towering LED structures, and the cantilevered balcony—measuring 2.5 by 5 meters—hosts lush vertical gardens. The seamless integration of multimedia technology within the architectural framework ensures that the stand remains both functional and visually striking.
Material selection further enhances the stand’s sophisticated aesthetic. Dark, laminated panels with stone and black-stained wood finishes are complemented by gold and copper accents, echoing the luxury of urban high-rises. Products are showcased in a specially curated gold-copper finish, reinforcing the connection between architecture and product design. The spatial composition, featuring a mezzanine and interactive display towers, encourages visitors to move through the stand, experiencing products from new perspectives at every turn.
Skyline Stories was developed through extensive research into urban architectural storytelling and visitor flow patterns at trade fairs. The design team, led by Marzena Michalska and project manager Agnieszka Skora, overcame significant engineering challenges, including the need for a non-standard floor height and the integration of a large cantilevered garden. Their efforts resulted in a stand that not only meets strict safety regulations but also sets a new standard for exhibition design, earning the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2025.
Skyline Stories by Smart Design Expo Marzena Michalska exemplifies how innovative architecture, advanced technology, and biophilic design can converge to create immersive, memorable spaces. This project signals a shift in exhibition design, where storytelling, scale, and sensory experience are as important as the products on display.
