Set against the backdrop of open fields, Light Field stands as a testament to innovative office design. The project, completed in November 2024, redefines the traditional workspace by integrating the owner's passion for wooden art with contemporary aesthetics. Puyu Design’s vision was to create an ‘object-driven space’ where each element, from furniture to architectural features, contributes to a harmonious narrative of creativity and functionality.
Breaking away from rigid office conventions, the designers implemented a ‘deconstructed circulation’ layout. Non-linear visual pathways guide visitors through dynamic zones, beginning with a striking blue L-shaped reception bar paired with vibrant yellow seating. This bold color strategy, based on a ‘warm-cool balance’ principle, infuses the space with both energy and calm. Titanium-plated metal cabinets subtly separate work and discussion areas, ensuring privacy without compromising openness, while large wooden furniture pieces highlight natural textures and craftsmanship.
Material selection plays a pivotal role in the project’s success. Self-leveling cement mortar flooring provides tactile continuity, and expansive glass windows flood the interior with natural light, reducing reliance on artificial illumination. Dark wooden desks anchor the space, complementing curated wall art and establishing a layered, stable atmosphere. Curved archways serve as transitional elements, guiding movement and enhancing the overall spatial narrative.
The 132.2-square-meter office was designed with flexibility in mind. A layered approach to spatial organization allows for seamless transitions from public entry areas to private workspaces and exclusive art displays. Multifunctional zones accommodate staff interaction, meetings, and relaxation, ensuring adaptability for various professional needs. Custom curved steps in the discussion area address ergonomic challenges posed by the diverse wooden furniture, while strategic lighting accentuates these features and fosters a welcoming ambiance.
Light Field’s design philosophy extends beyond aesthetics, engaging users through a thoughtful interplay of light, color, and form. The project’s location—where rural fields meet urban views—inspired a unique blend of rustic and modern elements. The result is a workspace that not only supports productivity but also invites exploration and appreciation, embodying the theme of ‘admiring art amidst scenic fields.’
Recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, Light Field exemplifies how innovative design can elevate everyday environments, merging art and architecture to improve quality of life and inspire creativity in the workplace.
