Celestone: Bridging Nature and Digital Art in Exhibition Design

Gunes Duman Gurbuz’s Celestone redefines exhibition spaces with natural inspiration and digital innovation.

Celestone stands out as a pioneering exhibition center, drawing inspiration from the forms and textures found in nature. Gunes Duman Gurbuz envisioned a space where the digital transformation of the world does not exclude the calming presence of natural elements. The design incorporates rock-like wall textures, crystalline pendant lamps, and a striking pink tree, all of which echo the organic forms and colors observed in the natural environment. This approach not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also fosters a sense of tranquility within a high-tech setting.

The project’s unique features are evident in its material choices and spatial organization. Concrete seating elements mimic the solidity of stone, while wooden wall panels with stone surfaces and wooden pendant lights shaped like crystals reinforce the connection to nature. The use of black microcement flooring grounds the space, and flexible screen materials enable seamless digital displays that extend from the exhibition hall into the integrated cafe area. This thoughtful blend of materials and technology creates a tactile, visually engaging environment for digital art exhibitions.

Celestone’s layout is designed to encourage both social interaction and artistic engagement. The 600-square-meter area, with an impressive 8-meter ceiling height, is divided into a cafe and an exhibition hall by ribbed frosted glass partitions. This separation allows for distinct yet interconnected experiences, as digital art screens continue into the cafe, inviting visitors to enjoy art while socializing. The concrete seating accommodates large groups, making the space ideal for collective art appreciation and performances.

Research and observation of natural life played a crucial role in shaping Celestone’s concept. The design process involved extensive exploration of natural forms, colors, and textures, combined with the integration of advanced digital art technology. The project reflects a commitment to reinterpreting the relationship between art and nature, offering a contemporary alternative to traditional gallery environments. The inclusion of artificial intelligence further animates the space, ensuring that each visit feels dynamic and engaging.

Celestone’s innovative approach has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design for 2025. This accolade highlights the project’s success in meeting professional standards while delivering a practical, emotionally fulfilling experience.
