Made Home: Elevating NYC’s Artisanal Food Online

Connecting local food artisans with a wider digital audience

Made Home by Eun Ji Kim redefines the digital marketplace, offering a seamless platform that celebrates New York City’s homemade food artisans through innovative web design and compelling storytelling.

Inspired by the vibrant communities of small-scale food makers, Made Home addresses the growing need for platforms that connect local artisans with broader audiences. Eun Ji Kim’s vision draws from the spirit of community-driven marketplaces, transforming the online shopping experience into a journey that highlights craftsmanship and authentic narratives. The design process incorporated extensive research into user behavior and brand identity, ensuring that every element supports both functionality and emotional engagement.

What sets Made Home apart is its unique integration of e-commerce and brand storytelling. The platform’s intuitive navigation and curated visual branding create an inviting digital space reminiscent of browsing a neighborhood market. Each product is accompanied by the story of its maker, fostering a sense of connection and trust between consumers and artisans. This approach not only enhances product accessibility but also elevates the appeal of locally made goods, positioning Made Home as more than just an online store.

The realization of this project involved meticulous wireframing and prototyping in Figma, with branding and visual assets crafted using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The website supports the latest versions of major browsers, ensuring a consistent and accessible experience for all users. Every design decision, from minimalistic UI elements to dynamic visuals, was guided by user research and iterative testing, resulting in a platform that balances clarity, engagement, and ease of use.

One of the primary challenges faced during development was achieving harmony between robust e-commerce features and rich brand storytelling. Unlike conventional marketplaces, Made Home needed to spotlight both products and the artisans behind them. This challenge was met through thoughtful layout design, dynamic content curation, and personalized recommendations, all of which contribute to an engaging, community-focused environment.

Made Home’s innovative approach has garnered industry recognition, earning the Iron A' Design Award in Website and Web Design for 2025. This accolade reflects the platform’s commitment to practical innovation, professional standards, and positive community impact. By transforming digital commerce into a celebration of local craftsmanship, Made Home sets a new standard for online marketplaces dedicated to supporting small businesses and authentic experiences.

As digital platforms continue to shape lifestyle choices, Made Home stands out as a model for how thoughtful design can bridge commerce and community, offering both fulfillment and inspiration to users and artisans alike.
