Adventure Nest: A Dynamic Children’s Room by Victoria Zubkova

Innovative two-level design fosters play, growth, and independence

Inspired by the boundless energy and curiosity of children, Victoria Zubkova’s Adventure Nest reimagines the traditional children’s room. The design aims to nurture development, independence, and joy, offering a space where young adventurers can play, rest, and grow. The project’s unique approach has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award, highlighting its contribution to enhancing quality of life through thoughtful design.

Adventure Nest stands out with its innovative two-level structure, tailored for two children. The lower level features cozy sleeping areas, while the upper zone serves as a spacious play area. This configuration maximizes the use of an 18.48m² room, with built-in storage drawers in the staircase ensuring both safety and functionality. The sports corner, complete with a climbing wall and Swedish ladder, encourages physical activity, while a soft-mat relaxation zone offers a tranquil retreat.

The realization of Adventure Nest relies on advanced technology and sustainable practices. Each furniture piece is crafted using 3D design and precision CNC milling, ensuring perfect fit and complex forms. Surfaces are finished with environmentally friendly, water-dispersion paints and protective varnishes, meeting strict safety standards. Adjustable elements allow the furniture to adapt as children grow, reinforcing the design’s long-term value.

Research played a pivotal role in shaping the project. Analysis of children’s behavior, parental feedback, and expert consultations informed key features such as multifunctional furniture, accessible storage, and zones for both activity and rest. These insights confirmed that well-zoned environments foster independence and improve family life, aligning with contemporary expectations for child-centered design.

One of the main challenges was balancing safety, functionality, and aesthetics. The design team, led by Victoria Zubkova with contributions from Lyudmila Oreshkina and Anastasia Dzhunko, overcame these hurdles by integrating modern materials and technologies. The result is a durable, visually appealing space that adapts to the evolving needs of children, supporting both their physical and imaginative development.

Adventure Nest exemplifies how innovative interior design can transform everyday spaces into nurturing environments for growth and exploration. As lifestyles evolve, such creative solutions set new standards for children’s rooms, making them places where memories are made and futures are shaped.
