The Misterio collection stands as a testament to the power of nature-inspired design. Drawing from the mystical allure of the aurora borealis, these luminaires evoke the supernatural forces revered by the indigenous peoples of Siberia. The Yakuts, for example, believed the Northern Lights were manifestations of powerful spirits, a narrative that finds new life in Misterio’s enchanting forms and luminous effects.
Central to Misterio’s uniqueness is its symbiotic blend of light, color, and shape. Each piece is crafted from cast glass, featuring multi-color effects that resemble sea waves frozen in time. The interplay of light and glass produces a mesmerizing array of highlights, shifting with every angle and gaze. A distinctive ring element, pointing inward, houses an LED tape with a matte diffuser, ensuring soft, picturesque lighting that creates organic patterns on surrounding surfaces.
The realization of Misterio required innovative glassworking techniques. Due to the complexity of the wave-like shapes, each lamp is formed from two glass halves joined by a metal ring. This ring not only serves as a structural element but also integrates the LED lighting, carefully calibrated to provide ample illumination. The result is a lamp that is both technically advanced and visually captivating, offering a luminous flux of 650 lumens with a warm color temperature of 2700K.
Functionality meets artistry in Misterio’s design. The collection includes pendant and wall lamps, each capable of serving as main or accent lighting. The models are highly versatile, suitable for workspaces, relaxation zones, or as statement pieces that cast dynamic highlights across interiors. The dimmable feature and wide scattering angle further enhance their adaptability, making them ideal for a range of environments.
Behind Misterio’s creation lies extensive research and experimentation. Achieving the desired light effects demanded a deep understanding of both glass properties and lighting technology. The design team explored various forms and techniques to replicate the vibrant, shifting colors of the aurora, ultimately settling on a spherical motif symbolizing celestial bodies. This dedication to innovation and craftsmanship was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in 2025, celebrating Misterio’s technical excellence and artistic impact.
Misterio by Alexey Danilin exemplifies how thoughtful design can transform everyday spaces into realms of wonder. By channeling the magic of the Northern Lights, these luminaires invite users to experience light as both a functional necessity and an artistic spectacle.
