Jiangangshan Number 1 stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of residential architecture in China. Located in Shenzhen, this ambitious project by Ho and Partners Architects encompasses a vast 394,000 square meters, thoughtfully nestled against Dajing Mountain Park. The design leverages the natural topography, blending mountain and forest elements into a vibrant urban habitat. By integrating residences, kindergartens, commercial streets, and supporting facilities, the development creates a multifaceted community that prioritizes both ecological balance and cultural continuity.
Drawing inspiration from bayfront modernism and regional advancement, the design team focused on preserving local cultural memory through community collaboration. The project reinterprets the aesthetics of the original settlement, ensuring that heritage integration is not merely symbolic but actively shapes communal spaces. Extensive research, including questionnaires and seminars with local aborigines and home buyers, informed the planning process, resulting in a design that resonates with the needs and aspirations of its diverse residents.
Technological innovation played a pivotal role in the realization of Jiangangshan Number 1. The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology streamlined the design process across all phases, from initial concepts to construction drawings. This approach enabled precise modeling, efficient problem-solving, and high-quality construction documentation, ultimately enhancing on-site efficiency and reducing project timelines. The integration of sustainable site development principles—such as earthwork balance and recycling-based greening systems—further underscores the project's commitment to environmental stewardship.
Spatial organization within the development is meticulously planned to foster a healthy, safe, and engaging lifestyle. Residential and public buildings are strategically clustered to create dynamic and static zones, ensuring tranquility for residents. The terraced arrangement of buildings maximizes views and ventilation, while open-space floors and landscape penetration invite nature into daily life. A 700-meter circular fitness trail and pedestrian-friendly pathways encourage active living, with careful separation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic enhancing safety for all ages.
Jiangangshan Number 1’s architectural language is defined by its synergy with the surrounding environment and its dedication to sustainable urban living. The project’s green building strategies—ranging from advanced thermal insulation to energy-efficient systems—reflect a holistic approach to reducing energy consumption and environmental impact. The result is a livable community ecosystem that not only meets contemporary needs but also sets a benchmark for future developments in the region.
Recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2025, Jiangangshan Number 1 exemplifies how thoughtful design can advance art, science, and technology while fostering a sense of place and well-being. The project’s successful completion and strong market performance highlight its significance as a model for integrating innovation, heritage, and sustainability in modern residential architecture.
