Aziz House stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of contemporary residential design in the Middle East. Drawing inspiration from Cycladic architecture’s massed forms, Najdi cultural motifs, and the earthy tranquility of Moroccan clay, the project creates a unique synthesis of regional heritage and modern sensibility. The result is a visually striking residence that offers both a sense of place and a peaceful sanctuary for its inhabitants.
Located on a 3,740-square-meter site in Buraydah, the house responds thoughtfully to its desert context. Passive cooling strategies, natural ventilation, and strategic shading are seamlessly integrated, ensuring comfort while minimizing environmental impact. The use of eco-friendly Tadelakt—a Moroccan lime plaster—across the facades not only provides a tactile, organic texture but also enhances durability and weather resistance. This material choice reflects a commitment to sustainability and a harmonious relationship with the surrounding landscape.
Inside, the spatial composition is meticulously crafted to promote relaxation and privacy. Expansive glass facades, clean lines, and a balanced interplay of light and shadow blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The material palette—featuring breeze blocks, wood, and palm leaves—creates a refined yet inviting atmosphere, fostering a sense of warmth and connection to nature. Every design element is carefully considered to support a lifestyle centered on tranquility and personal well-being.
The project’s development involved extensive research into local culture, climate, and materials. The design team, including Ahmed Nader, Mustafa Hussain, and Abdulrahman Ahmed, collaborated to balance the client’s desire for luxury and privacy with the realities of desert living. Innovative solutions, such as custom breeze blocks and a desert-themed landscape with cacti and a duck pond, further enhance the home’s comfort and ecological performance.
Aziz House has been recognized with the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2025, underscoring its technical excellence and creative vision. The residence not only exemplifies outstanding expertise and innovation but also introduces a new standard for sustainable, culturally resonant living in the region.
By harmonizing diverse architectural traditions and prioritizing environmental stewardship, Aziz House offers a compelling blueprint for future residential projects in arid climates, inviting reflection on how design can foster both comfort and connection to place.
