At the heart of Cairo Design Week’s second edition, GLC Paints unveiled “Hues of the Future,” a visionary exhibition that brought together six Egyptian designers to reimagine the home a century ahead. The project featured four distinct pavilions—Brutifully Forward, Ha-beit’a, Reserva 77, and Casino Central—each offering a unique perspective on blending heritage, nature, and futuristic living. Sara Gaafar’s architectural photography played a pivotal role in translating these bold concepts into evocative visual narratives, emphasizing the emotional and human essence within the built environment.
The exhibition’s design relied on a harmonious mix of wood, gypsum board, and innovative paint finishes. Wood provided structural integrity and warmth, while gypsum board enabled the creation of sculpted, geometric forms that echoed both nostalgia and modernity. GLC Paints’ curated color palette enhanced the tactile qualities of each pavilion, using light and shadow to create immersive atmospheres that encouraged exploration and interaction among visitors.
Gaafar’s photographic approach was rooted in meticulous research and technical expertise. High-resolution, full-frame cameras and tilt-shift lenses were employed to ensure architectural accuracy and depth, while careful balancing of natural and artificial lighting highlighted the interplay of textures and materials. Advanced image processing techniques, including bracketing and color correction, were used to authentically represent the designers’ visions and the vibrancy of GLC Paints’ 2024 color trends.
Interaction was a key element of the exhibition’s design. Open pathways and strategically placed reflective surfaces invited visitors to move dynamically through the space, engaging with the architecture rather than merely observing it. This emphasis on human-centric design was mirrored in Gaafar’s photography, which captured moments of engagement, movement, and connection, reinforcing the idea that architecture is experienced as much as it is seen.
Overcoming challenges such as fluctuating light conditions and the need to preserve architectural integrity, Gaafar’s work stands as a testament to the power of adaptive techniques and creative vision. The resulting images not only document the exhibition but also elevate it, offering viewers a window into a future where design, technology, and emotion converge.
“Hues of the Future” was recognized with the Bronze A' Photography and Photo Manipulation Design Award in 2025, a testament to its innovative approach and contribution to the discourse on quality of life through art and design. The project exemplifies how thoughtful architectural photography can bridge the gap between concept and experience, inspiring audiences to envision new possibilities for living spaces.
