“Eclipse” stands as a testament to the power of design in shaping meaningful living environments. Drawing inspiration from deep familial connections and the interplay of natural light, the project captures the essence of warmth and resilience. The design employs soft curves and refined textures to evoke a sense of balance, while every element is carefully selected to express both personal sentiment and technical innovation. This approach results in a space that resonates with modern elegance and heartfelt inspiration, reflecting the designer’s commitment to sustainability through precise detailing and material choices.
Central to the project is the “Sun & Moon” concept, which integrates soft, warm lighting and flowing architectural lines to minimize the visual impact of structural columns. By employing a sophisticated palette of wood, stone, and metal finishes, alongside hidden doors and linear detailing, the design achieves a layered spatial experience. This thoughtful arrangement not only meets the functional needs of a family but also showcases innovative craftsmanship and technical expertise, setting “Eclipse” apart from conventional residential interiors.
The realization of “Eclipse” relied on advanced production methods and meticulous craftsmanship. Techniques such as repositioning doors to maintain uninterrupted sight lines, and the use of engineered wood veneer, faux stone panels, and custom metal finishes, exemplify the project’s dedication to both aesthetic refinement and sustainability. The integration of concealed lighting and precise structural modifications ensures seamless installation and balanced spatial proportions throughout the 115-square-meter residence.
Functionality is at the heart of the design, with hidden doors and open pathways guiding residents intuitively between communal and private spaces. Key transitions, such as moving from the living room to more secluded areas, are accentuated by soft lighting and unobstructed views, fostering casual interaction and a sense of continuity. This layout not only enhances daily living but also creates an engaging and comfortable environment for all occupants.
Completed in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, over a four-month period, “Eclipse” overcame significant challenges, including balancing familial narratives with modern structural requirements and navigating strict building codes and material limitations. The project’s iterative process and innovative problem-solving ensured that artistic integrity was maintained while addressing all technical and contextual demands. The result is a residence that exemplifies best practices in art, design, and technology, earning the Bronze A' Design Award in 2025 for its outstanding creativity and positive impact on quality of life.
“Eclipse” by Chen Yu Chiu demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate everyday living, merging emotional resonance with technical mastery to create spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
