Greystone House: Minimalism Meets Nature in Jeddah

Ahmed Habib’s award-winning villa redefines modern residential living

Greystone House by Ahmed Habib stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of minimalism and natural beauty, offering a serene living experience in the heart of Jeddah.

Greystone House, a visionary residential project designed by Ahmed Habib, exemplifies the fusion of sleek modern architecture with the calming influence of nature. Drawing inspiration from minimalist principles, the villa features clean lines, a refined palette of white and gray, and expansive windows that flood the interiors with natural light. The design’s focus on open spaces and seamless indoor-outdoor connections fosters a tranquil atmosphere, while a central tree in the outdoor area serves as a striking focal point, inviting relaxation and contemplation.

Located in Jeddah, the Greystone House addresses both climate and cultural considerations, including privacy and social interaction. The layout incorporates distinct entrances for family, guests, and garden access, ensuring functional zoning and smooth circulation throughout the home. The ground floor is dedicated to communal spaces such as a spacious reception, dining area, and daily living zones, while the first floor provides private bedrooms for restful retreats. Outdoor amenities, including a pool and gym, encourage an active lifestyle and further enhance the connection to nature.

The project’s realization relied on a thoughtful selection of materials and technologies. The main structure utilizes concrete, complemented by gray stone, matte walnut wood, and off-white stucco finishes. Double-glazed glass with dark gray aluminum profiles ensures energy efficiency and comfort, while perforated GRC patterns add a touch of artistry and privacy. With a built-up area of 1,250 square meters on a 2,000-square-meter plot, Greystone House achieves both grandeur and intimacy within its 15-meter height.

Comprehensive research underpinned the design process, encompassing client needs analysis, cultural and environmental studies, and technical consultations with subject matter experts. The challenge of balancing traditional living requirements with modern minimalism was met through the use of sustainable local materials and meticulous planning of natural light and landscape views. Navigating local regulations and budget constraints further shaped the project, ensuring it remained practical without sacrificing cultural authenticity.

Greystone House has garnered international acclaim, earning the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2025. This recognition highlights the project’s outstanding expertise, technical innovation, and artistic excellence. By blending minimalism with the elegance of nature, Ahmed Habib’s design sets a new standard for residential architecture in Saudi Arabia, offering a lifestyle that is both sophisticated and deeply connected to its environment.

Greystone House stands as a model for future residential projects, demonstrating how thoughtful design can elevate everyday living while respecting local culture and the natural world. Its success encourages architects and homeowners alike to pursue harmony between modernity and tradition, creating spaces that inspire and rejuvenate.
