Safety and sustainability are central to the design. The pebbles are made from edible fruit and vegetable powders, combined with food-safe starch and pigments. Research for Chalk Pebbles involved naturalistic observation, material testing, and feedback from 28 users, ensuring the product’s appeal and effectiveness in real-world educational contexts. The design encourages open-ended interaction, from painting on rough surfaces to breaking apart the chalk for creative building play. This approach not only supports fine motor skill development and hand-eye coordination but also deepens children’s understanding of ecological cycles and sustainability.

Chalk Pebbles has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award, highlighting its innovative blend of art, science, and environmental consciousness.
