Menhao Tea’s archival collection case stands out by replacing subjective tea descriptors with quantifiable visual metrics. Chromatic scales, flavor indicators, and traceability codes create a verifiable framework for tea evaluation, moving beyond ambiguous terms such as “mellow sweetness.” This innovative approach empowers consumers to make informed decisions based on data, not just tradition.
The design visualizes tea cultivation through a biological phylogenetic tree, mapping six major tea categories alongside terroir coordinates, craft evolution timelines, and flavor matrices. Each inner capsule details geo-coordinates, tree age, and processing parameters, all synchronized with a traceable quality database. This level of transparency and scientific rigor is rare in tea packaging, offering a new paradigm for both connoisseurs and casual drinkers.
Material innovation is central to the Menhao Tea case. Washable kraft paper and a cotton cord closure system allow for sustainable reuse, while bronze gold hot foil stamping and silver foil parameter indicators create a striking visual hierarchy. Tactile sticker overlays and botanical motifs reinforce the archival theme, transforming each unboxing into a ritual reminiscent of document retrieval in historical research.
Each box contains 66 pre-measured sachets, precisely calibrated for optimal infusion strength in dedicated teapots. This scientific approach to portioning ensures consistency and quality with every brew, reflecting Chushan Design’s commitment to merging tradition with innovation.
Launched in Shenzhen in late 2024, Menhao Tea’s archival system is the result of extensive research into visual semiotics and material lifecycle testing. By quantifying heritage techniques and integrating them into a contemporary consumer product, the design demystifies tea culture and sets new benchmarks for quality and transparency in the industry.
Menhao Tea’s archival packaging has garnered international recognition, winning the Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2025 for its outstanding contribution to art, science, and design. This achievement highlights the project’s impact in advancing both the aesthetics and the science of tea appreciation.
Menhao Tea’s archival collection case by Chushan Design exemplifies how thoughtful innovation can elevate everyday rituals, bridging the gap between historical research and modern consumption. This data-driven, sensorial approach invites tea lovers to experience tradition through the lens of science and design excellence.
