Snow Park: An Immersive Ice and Snow Exhibition Center

Kris Lin’s design redefines experiential spaces at Shenzhen’s world-class ski resort

Inspired by a Chinese explorer’s glacier expedition, Snow Park by Kris Lin International Design transforms the concept of an exhibition center into an immersive journey through six themed ice and snow scenes, blending natural wonder with cutting-edge technology.

Snow Park stands as the exhibition center for the world’s largest indoor ski resort, located in Shenzhen. Drawing inspiration from the awe-inspiring landscapes of glaciers, the design unfolds through six distinct scenes: Ice Lake, Ice Tunnel, Ice Cave, Ice Light, Ice Cone, and Ice House. Each area offers visitors a unique adventure, echoing the spirit of exploration and the beauty of frozen terrains. This thematic approach not only captivates the imagination but also positions the space as a landmark of cultural and commercial significance in southern China.

Central to the project’s innovation is the use of Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum, a material prized for its moldability, lightness, and sustainability. This choice enables the creation of flowing walls and ribbon-like light fixtures that mimic the delicate textures of snow and glaciers. The tunnel area features Ice Jade Stone, whose translucent quality, enhanced by strategic lighting, evokes the essence of ice while ensuring durability and eco-friendliness. These materials, combined with advanced holographic projections and LED technology, immerse visitors in a multi-sensory environment that bridges art, nature, and technology.

Interactivity is at the heart of the Snow Park experience. Visitors encounter touchscreens, holographic projections, and immersive sandboxes that allow for hands-on exploration of glacier knowledge and real-time snow landscapes. The spatial layout is designed for fluid circulation, guiding guests through a progressive sensory journey that engages sight, sound, and touch. This approach not only enhances visitor engagement but also supports the transition of the space from exhibition center to commercial venue, ensuring long-term operational and economic value.

The project’s realization overcame significant architectural challenges, including the integration of 36 structural columns and irregular basement ceilings. Kris Lin’s team addressed these obstacles by incorporating the columns into a streamlined design and using light fixtures to minimize their visual impact. The result is a surreal, immersive environment where snow textures and dynamic lighting create a sense of wonder while maintaining functionality and flexibility for future use.

Beyond its architectural achievements, Snow Park plays a pivotal role in promoting ice and snow tourism in China and raising awareness about glacier protection and climate change. By merging natural elements with futuristic design, the project not only attracts visitors but also fosters a deeper appreciation for sustainability and innovation. Recognized with the Platinum A’ Design Award in 2025, Snow Park exemplifies how art, technology, and environmental consciousness can converge to define the aesthetics and experiences of a new era.

Snow Park by Kris Lin International Design sets a new benchmark for experiential architecture, offering a harmonious blend of cultural storytelling, technological innovation, and sustainable design. Its flexible, immersive spaces promise to inspire both visitors and the broader design community for years to come.
