Every Perfect Day: Modular Tea Packaging by Ying Han

Innovative interlocking design elevates tea packaging aesthetics and function

Ying Han’s award-winning redesign for Bigelow Tea reimagines packaging as both art and interactive experience, blending bold visuals with practical innovation.

Every Perfect Day, a tea package design by Ying Han, transforms the traditional tea box into a modular, engaging work of art. Drawing inspiration from Bigelow’s diverse tea series, the project emphasizes the unique ingredients of each blend while maintaining a unified visual identity. Abstract patterns, ingredient-inspired motifs, and refined typography come together to celebrate both individuality and cohesion, turning packaging into a storytelling medium that deepens the consumer’s connection to each flavor.

Distinctive features set this design apart in the competitive world of packaging. Each tea is housed in a triangular box, engineered to interlock seamlessly with five others, forming a striking hexagonal display. This modular approach not only enhances shelf presence but also invites users to interact with the packaging, creating a sense of discovery and engagement. Bold typography highlights the benefits of each tea, while dynamic color gradients help differentiate flavors within the cohesive system.

The realization of this design involved meticulous prototyping and technological refinement. Hand-cut and laser-cut paper models were used to test the structural integrity and user interaction of the interlocking mechanism. High-resolution photography documented each iteration, allowing for detailed analysis of material texture, color accuracy, and spatial relationships. These insights informed precise adjustments in dieline design and typography application, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and production feasibility.

User-centered research played a pivotal role in shaping the final product. Surveys, competitor analysis, and user feedback sessions revealed that consumers value clear labeling and visually engaging designs. The modular hexagonal form was developed in response to these insights, offering both practical functionality and a memorable unboxing experience. This approach aligns with contemporary trends in packaging, where visual storytelling and structural innovation are increasingly prioritized.

Ying Han’s design not only meets professional and industrial standards but also sets a new benchmark for tea packaging. Awarded Iron in the 2025 A' Packaging Design Award, Every Perfect Day exemplifies how thoughtful design can enhance everyday rituals, foster brand recognition, and contribute to a more engaging consumer experience.

This project stands as a testament to the power of design in bridging art, innovation, and lifestyle, encouraging brands to explore modularity and interaction as pathways to deeper consumer connection.
