At the heart of Masseria Auraterrae lies the Roots Philosophy, an approach that values indigenous knowledge, traditional practices, and local materials. This philosophy shapes every aspect of the resort, from its architectural form to its operational ethos. By involving local communities in the design and construction process, the project not only reflects the aspirations of its surroundings but also strengthens social cohesion and regional pride.
The resort’s unique character is defined by its commitment to preserving cultural heritage while embracing sustainable solutions. Spanning a 3,000-square-meter historical building and 120,000 square meters of managed land, Masseria Auraterrae incorporates rainwater harvesting, renewable energy, and organic waste management. The use of traditional construction techniques and locally sourced materials reduces environmental impact and supports the local economy, exemplifying best practices in green building.
Bepi Povia’s design philosophy is deeply rooted in the Puglian landscape, drawing inspiration from local craftsmanship and centuries-old traditions. The careful restoration of ancient vegetable gardens, churches, and communal spaces ensures that even the smallest historical elements are preserved. Epigraphs and stone inscriptions, meticulously cleaned and displayed, invite guests to connect with the layered history of the masseria, offering a unique, immersive experience.
The project faced the challenge of balancing functionality with historical preservation. Some original features, though no longer practical, were retained for their cultural significance. This dedication to authenticity transforms Masseria Auraterrae into more than a resort—it becomes a living narrative, engaging the senses and telling the story of Puglia’s rich heritage.
Recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2025, Masseria Auraterrae exemplifies how thoughtful design can contribute to a better world. By merging experiential tourism with sustainable development, Bepi Povia sets a new standard for hospitality in southern Italy, inviting travelers to experience the true essence of Puglia through architecture, landscape, and tradition.
Masseria Auraterrae’s success highlights the growing importance of contextually relevant and environmentally conscious design in the global tourism industry. As a model for future projects, it demonstrates that honoring the past can inspire innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
