Inspired by the layered history of Kaleici, Hilal Ustun Caner approached the Belmondo Suites project with a philosophy that honors the past while embracing the present. Rather than imposing a singular aesthetic, the design preserves the palimpsest nature of the site—retaining original architectural features and integrating contemporary elements. This dialogue between history and modernity is evident throughout the property, where craftsmanship and material selection create a harmonious balance between comfort, authenticity, and visual appeal.
What distinguishes Belmondo Suites is its commitment to adaptive reuse. The project’s strength lies in respecting the original architecture of the mansions while introducing modern functionality. Meticulous restoration techniques were employed, including the preservation of wooden floors, slatted ceilings, and stone walls. Contemporary needs are met through handcrafted furniture, bespoke materials, and an intuitive layout that emphasizes both comfort and aesthetic harmony. The interiors reflect a blend of neo-classical elegance, modern rustic warmth, and Scandinavian simplicity, resulting in a timeless atmosphere that honors the site’s heritage.
The realization of Belmondo Suites required a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern production technologies. Precision joinery, custom ceramic work, and careful restoration ensured the authenticity of the original structures. The project encompasses 30 uniquely designed rooms, two restaurants, a wine house, and a patisserie. The first phase, completed in October 2024, introduced 16 rooms and the Belforno Italian Restaurant, setting a new standard for boutique hospitality in the region.
Interaction within the space is designed to foster a sense of community and connection to history. The adaptive reuse of the mansions creates a vibrant social hub, where open, semi-open, and enclosed spaces allow guests to engage with the architectural heritage in a warm, inviting atmosphere. Each room is uniquely crafted, respecting the original layout while ensuring modern comfort and functionality. This approach not only preserves spatial memory but also enhances the guest experience through cultural storytelling and immersive design.
Belmondo Suites stands as a model for sustainable, history-conscious design. Extensive research, including site analysis, archival studies, and interviews with past residents, informed the project’s direction. The challenges of merging historical preservation with contemporary hospitality were met with innovative solutions, resulting in a space that bridges the past and present with precision. Awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2025, Belmondo Suites exemplifies excellence in hospitality design, offering a unique blend of tradition, innovation, and sensory delight.
Belmondo Suites invites visitors to savor the rich tapestry of Antalya’s history while enjoying the comforts of modern luxury—a testament to the enduring value of thoughtful, adaptive design.
