Drawing inspiration from the vibrant technological environment of its surroundings, the Dongguan Zhongshuge Library reflects the innovative spirit of the industrial park, home to leading technology firms and advanced research institutions. The design language is rooted in the motif of gears—symbols of industry and progress—which are artfully integrated throughout the space, from the main reading area to the children’s section and the café. This thematic consistency creates a cohesive yet dynamic environment that invites exploration and discovery.

The library spans three floors, each meticulously planned to serve distinct functions while maintaining visual harmony. The primary reading areas occupy the first to third floors, connected by a corridor on the second floor that links diverse zones, including a children’s reading area inspired by the Spallation Neutron Source facility. Here, a unique installation doubles as both a functional bookshelf and a striking visual centerpiece, dividing the space and offering young readers an immersive, technology-infused experience.

The café on the second floor continues the industrial narrative, featuring factory-inspired lighting, furniture, and large-scale installations. These elements are seamlessly woven into the overall aesthetic, creating a welcoming atmosphere that balances the rawness of industry with the warmth of natural materials. The predominant use of wood throughout the interior softens the industrial edge, fostering a sense of comfort and connection for visitors.

Architecturally, the building’s petal-shaped form and gradually rising elevation culminate in a natural viewing platform, accessible via a rotating staircase. This thoughtful spatial arrangement not only enhances the visual appeal but also ensures accessibility and functionality. The innovative use of gear elements as both decorative features and practical bookcases exemplifies the project’s commitment to merging form and function.

Overcoming the challenge of integrating abstract industrial motifs without sacrificing warmth, Eternal Architectural Design has crafted a space that feels both fantastical and grounded. The result is a bookstore that transcends conventional expectations, offering a unique blend of scientific inspiration, artistic refinement, and community engagement.
