Freistil: A Fresh Identity for Modern Physiotherapy

Blending tradition and innovation in corporate design for wellness

Freistil, designed by Ina Oakley, reimagines the visual identity of a long-standing physiotherapy practice, merging heritage with contemporary energy to appeal to a diverse clientele.

When Katrin Caspary assumed leadership of an established physiotherapy practice near Cologne, the need for a revitalized brand was clear. Ina Oakley’s design approach for Freistil—literally translating to “free style”—embodies both the legacy of the business and the dynamism of its new direction. The corporate identity project sought to capture the essence of movement, flexibility, and individual care, reflecting the practice’s mission to inspire active, healthy living for all ages.

Central to Freistil’s uniqueness is its harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. The design features a dynamic, text-based logo with a stretch effect, symbolizing movement and adaptability. Illustrative elements bridge the gap between classic craftsmanship and modern ideas, while a carefully curated color palette—purple, coral, off-white, and blue—evokes creativity, freshness, and competence. This visual language not only honors the practice’s roots but also signals a welcoming, forward-thinking environment.

Materials and production choices further reinforce Freistil’s values. Business cards and banners utilize fine, sustainable papers, while clothing items such as sweaters and beanies are crafted from premium organic fabrics. The commitment to quality and environmental responsibility is evident in every detail, from sourcing local suppliers to the tactile experience of each printed piece. Web design, executed in XD and built on WordPress, ensures a seamless digital presence aligned with the brand’s ethos.

Research played a pivotal role in shaping Freistil’s identity. Interviews with local residents and a study of both modern and traditional physiotherapy practices informed the design strategy. The challenge lay in appealing to the practice’s loyal older clientele while attracting a younger demographic. The result is a visual identity that lowers barriers to engagement, motivates the team, and communicates a sense of openness and inclusivity.

Freistil’s award-winning design—recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2025—demonstrates how thoughtful branding can elevate a wellness practice. By weaving together tradition, innovation, and sustainability, Ina Oakley’s work sets a new standard for corporate identity in the health and wellness sector, inspiring both clients and practitioners to embrace change and movement.

Freistil stands as a testament to the power of design in shaping perceptions and experiences, encouraging individuals to breathe freely, explore new perspectives, and embark on their personal journey to well-being.
