Located in the vibrant district of Sariyer, Istanbul, the Sariyer Project by Somas Architecture stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of residential design. Covering 210 square meters, this home is shaped by a holistic approach that prioritizes the homeowners’ lifestyle, environmental consciousness, and the integration of local influences. The design process began with in-depth research and close collaboration with the homeowners, ensuring that every detail—from spatial planning to material selection—reflected their unique tastes and values.
Central to the project’s philosophy is the use of warm, earthy colors and deep, rich tones, echoing the 2025 interior design trends while maintaining a timeless appeal. The architects placed significant emphasis on environmental sustainability, incorporating energy-efficient solutions and sustainable materials, particularly in the kitchen where durable, eco-friendly cabinetry in butter yellow creates a welcoming atmosphere. The project’s biophilic design principles are evident in the transformation of a previously underutilized garden into a vibrant winter garden, maximizing natural light and fostering a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Lighting plays a pivotal role in the Sariyer Project, transcending its functional purpose to become a key element of mood and ambiance. Somas Architecture adopted a layered lighting strategy, utilizing artistic chandeliers and wall sconces to enrich the interiors. This approach not only enhances the aesthetic but also allows for dynamic atmospheres that can be tailored to different occasions and moods. The inclusion of antique silver accessories in the living room, inherited from the homeowners’ families, further underscores the project’s commitment to timelessness and personal history.
Intentional maximalism defines the overall aesthetic, with a deliberate layering of color, texture, and accessories. Rather than following fleeting trends, the design team focused on creating spaces that would remain relevant and cherished for years to come. Handmade wallpapers, leaf-shaped lighting, and a curated mix of vintage and contemporary furnishings contribute to a dynamic yet harmonious environment. The kitchen and winter garden, in particular, showcase a confident blend of butter yellow cabinetry and dark wood textures, demonstrating mastery in mixing bold colors and materials.
Flexibility and adaptability are woven into the fabric of the design, ensuring that the home can evolve with the changing needs of its inhabitants. The use of timeless materials such as natural stone, wood, and high-quality fabrics guarantees longevity, while smart home technologies and energy-efficient systems enhance comfort and convenience. The result is a living space that balances modern innovation with classical elegance, offering both aesthetic pleasure and practical functionality.
Recognized with the Iron A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2025, the Sariyer Project exemplifies how thoughtful design can create homes that are not only beautiful but also meaningful, sustainable, and adaptable. Somas Architecture’s approach demonstrates that intentional maximalism, when guided by personal narrative and environmental responsibility, can yield spaces that enrich daily life and stand the test of time.
