Vision Auction: Redefining Online Jewelry Bidding with MR

Mixed Reality transforms digital auctions into immersive, trustworthy experiences

Vision Auction by Leying Bi introduces a groundbreaking approach to online jewelry bidding, merging Mixed Reality (MR) technology with user-centric design to address trust and engagement challenges in digital auctions.

Online jewelry auctions have long struggled with issues of trust, limited interactivity, and the inability for buyers to physically inspect items. Vision Auction, designed by Leying Bi, tackles these concerns head-on by integrating MR technology, allowing participants to virtually try on jewelry and engage in live auctions from anywhere in the world. This innovative approach not only enhances user confidence but also elevates the excitement and transparency of the bidding process.

At the heart of Vision Auction lies the seamless blend of digital and physical participation. Users access the platform through Apple Vision Pro, where they can preview digital twin lots in augmented reality, inspect intricate details using eye-tracking and gesture controls, and experience the emotional crescendo of live auctions in virtual reality. The inclusion of certified digital twin jewelry ensures authenticity and value retention, fostering a secure environment for both primary sales and secondary trading.

The design process was meticulously executed using Figma and Adobe Photoshop, with usability tested via the Google Cardboard simulator. Adherence to Apple Vision Pro guidelines ensured optimal button sizing, spacing, and gesture recognition, resulting in a highly intuitive interface. Technical specifications, such as the use of SF Pro font and a structured text hierarchy, further enhance clarity and usability, making navigation effortless for users of all backgrounds.

Research played a pivotal role in shaping Vision Auction. Internet ethnography and interviews with high-end auction participants revealed key pain points, guiding the development of personas, journey maps, and prototypes. Iterative testing and SUS scoring refined the interface, striking a balance between robust functionality and elegant simplicity. The result is a platform that prioritizes transparency, efficiency, and personalization, setting a new standard for digital jewelry trade.

Vision Auction’s innovative approach has earned it the Silver A' Design Award in Interface, Interaction, and User Experience Design for 2025. This recognition highlights the platform’s exceptional creativity, technical expertise, and its potential to inspire amazement and trust in the evolving landscape of online auctions.

As the digital marketplace continues to expand, Vision Auction stands as a testament to the transformative power of MR technology and thoughtful design, offering a glimpse into the future of immersive, reliable, and engaging online jewelry auctions.
