Culture to Technology Identity: Bridging Heritage and Innovation

The “Culture to Technology Identity” placard, designed by Lei Wang and his creative team, stands as a testament to Hefei’s remarkable journey from historical richness to technological prominence. Inspired by the rapid advancement of the Hefei High Tech Zone, the design encapsulates the city’s dual identity—rooted in the profound legacy of Huizhou culture while embracing a future defined by science and innovation. This visual narrative not only honors the region’s past but also projects its aspirations for the future, making it a compelling symbol for Anhui’s ongoing transformation.

Central to the placard’s uniqueness is its seamless blend of cultural and technological motifs. The upper section features the Chinese character for Anhui, elegantly framed by the iconic silhouettes of Huizhou architecture. This traditional element gradually morphs into intricate circuit patterns, culminating in the four Chinese characters representing Hefei High Tech. This progression forms the visual centerpiece, illustrating the transition from heritage to innovation—a theme that resonates throughout the design.

The realization of this concept demanded meticulous attention to detail and advanced production techniques. High-precision drawings at 300dpi ensure clarity and durability, essential for outdoor displays such as bus stop light boxes. The use of gradient blues, achieved through spot color overprinting, evokes the serene landscapes of Jiangnan while symbolizing a forward-looking vision. UV local varnish applied to the circuit lines creates a striking 3D effect, enhancing both tactile and visual engagement. Rigorous color calibration and alignment further guarantee the placard’s lasting impact in public spaces.

Functionally, the design adheres to principles of simplicity and unity, guided by a harmonious color palette and clean layout. The dynamic flow of circuit lines not only reinforces the technological theme but also leads the viewer’s eye through the composition, offering an intuitive and immersive reading experience. This approach reflects an oriental aesthetic sensibility, balancing purity with innovation.

Research underpinning the project highlights Anhui’s recent achievements in sectors such as new energy vehicles, intelligent manufacturing, quantum information, and green energy. The Hefei High Tech Zone, as a focal point of this progress, exemplifies the region’s commitment to driving new quality productivity through scientific and technological breakthroughs.
