The Octagon Pavilion stands as a testament to the enduring influence of Nikola Tesla’s inventions and experiments, capturing global attention in the 21st century. Drawing direct inspiration from Tesla’s original tower, the design features a striking octagonal courtyard extension, which not only enhances its sculptural presence but also establishes a strong connection to the mass typology of the structure. This geometric form was carefully selected to echo Tesla’s own architectural choices, infusing the pavilion with both symbolic and functional significance.
At the heart of the pavilion lies a reconstructed Tesla tower, serving as a dramatic viewpoint and the centerpiece of the collection. Visitors are greeted by a glass atrium that offers panoramic views from within the octagonal interior, while an observation platform at the tower’s summit provides a unique vantage point. The design’s innovative use of space and light transforms the pavilion into a “timeless space vehicle,” symbolizing progress, good health, and good fortune for its visitors.
The realization of the Octagon Pavilion involved a blend of traditional and cutting-edge techniques. Initial sketches evolved into detailed 2D and 3D models, with post-production enhanced by artificial intelligence tools. Photo analysis of the original Tesla tower informed the design, ensuring historical accuracy while integrating modern materials and construction methods. The structural system features glass lattice roofing supported by columns shaped like lightning, a nod to Tesla’s fascination with electricity and energy.
Spanning a gross area of approximately 215,000 square meters, the pavilion includes a 57-meter-tall tower, expansive ground and upper floors, and a green roof park. Designed for adaptability, the venue can transition from an expo pavilion to a mixed-use commercial and residential hub, ensuring long-term sustainability and community value. This flexibility addresses the challenge of creating lasting impact beyond the duration of global exhibitions.
The Octagon Pavilion’s research foundation connects a century of communication innovation, from Tesla’s early breakthroughs to the satellite age. By fostering international collaboration and scientific advancement, the pavilion aspires to become a landmark for cities worldwide, especially in regions prioritizing energy efficiency and scientific progress. The project’s recognition with the Bronze A’ Design Award in 2025 highlights its creative ingenuity and contribution to quality of life improvements.
