Spiral Eco3: A Revolution in Sustainable Holiday Decor

Innovative recyclable Christmas tree redefines festive sustainability

Spiral Eco3 by Design Nest and Nuwa Circular Solutions introduces a fully recyclable, flat-packed Christmas tree, setting new standards for eco-friendly holiday celebrations.

The Spiral Eco3 emerged from a vision to address the mounting waste generated by traditional artificial Christmas trees. Inspired by Weye Hu’s observation of non-recyclable holiday decor, Design Nest and Nuwa Circular Solutions collaborated to create a tree that is both 100 percent recycled and recyclable. Unlike conventional PVC trees, which are difficult to recycle due to their steel reinforcements, Spiral Eco3 utilizes a patented PET spiral structure, eliminating the need for steel and reducing environmental impact.

What sets Spiral Eco3 apart is its innovative spiral mounting system, which supports branches made entirely from recycled PET. This spiral not only forms the frame but also integrates Christmas lighting powered by a universal USB-C adapter, minimizing electronic waste. The tree’s flat-pack design significantly lowers its carbon footprint during shipping and storage, while the easy assembly process allows users to set it up in under a minute.

Manufacturing the Spiral Eco3 involves advanced techniques such as injection molding and sheet extrusion. The spiral and branches are crafted from recycled PET, with the spiral featuring integrated hooks for quick assembly. The garlands, made from needle-like slices of PET, click securely into place without additional parts, streamlining production and reducing setup time from 50 to just 15 minutes. The USB-C lighting system includes a cost-efficient chip offering multiple lighting modes, and the universal adapter can be repurposed for other electronics throughout the year.

Spiral Eco3’s technical specifications highlight its versatility: the standard model measures 800 x 800 x 1800mm, with packaging dimensions of 820 x 820 x 160mm. The design accommodates various heights, from tabletop versions to trees as tall as 2.4 meters. Its modular construction enables full disassembly, ensuring that every component can be recycled at the end of its life cycle. This approach addresses the industry’s long-standing challenges of material separation and waste reduction.

Research and development for Spiral Eco3 spanned the Netherlands and China, involving extensive studies on material sustainability, recyclability, and compliance with international safety standards. Overcoming significant hurdles in material strength, fire safety, and manufacturing collaboration, the design team succeeded in delivering a product that is both affordable and environmentally responsible. The Spiral Eco3 has been recognized with the Silver A' Sustainable Products, Projects, and Green Design Award in 2025, underscoring its technical excellence and innovative spirit.

Spiral Eco3 offers a modern, planet-friendly alternative to conventional holiday trees. Its compact, sustainable design, rapid assembly, and integrated lighting system make it an ideal choice for eco-conscious consumers seeking to celebrate the festive season with minimal environmental impact.
