Located in the bustling coastal region of Rizhao, the Zhonggu Logistics headquarters stands as a testament to the synergy between industrial heritage and contemporary design. Drawing inspiration from the ubiquitous shipping container, the design by Shanghai Wei Design Co., Ltd. incorporates geometric forms and corrugated textures throughout the 10,000-square-meter building. This approach not only establishes a strong visual identity but also resonates deeply with the logistics park’s operational context.
The building’s nine floors serve multiple functions, including business operations, corporate culture exhibitions, offices, dining, and staff accommodations. A highlight is the ninth-floor dispatch center control room, which is accessed via a luminous pathway created by reflective light strips embedded in the ceiling and floor. This technological feature guides visitors and underscores the facility’s commitment to innovation and efficiency.
Corrugated metal sheets, reminiscent of traditional container surfaces, are used extensively in the facade, lobby walls, and signage, reinforcing the industrial motif. The square spatial configuration and metal paneling evoke the sensation of traversing a massive container, immersing occupants in the world of shipping and logistics. The integration of these materials is both aesthetic and functional, contributing to the building’s robust character.
Strategically, the design leverages panoramic views of the adjacent container yard and the sea, especially from the ninth-floor negotiation area. Here, black mirrored marble flooring creates a reflective surface, giving the impression that the space floats above water. This thoughtful detail enhances the ambiance and provides a memorable setting for business discussions, merging functionality with visual delight.
The corporate culture display area further exemplifies the design’s narrative strength. A corrugated ceiling and a floor patterned with water ripples evoke the imagery of a cargo ship navigating waves, symbolizing the enterprise’s journey and resilience. This immersive environment communicates core values to visitors, reinforcing the company's identity and mission.
Recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, Zhonggu Logistics headquarters exemplifies how industrial elements can be reimagined to create inspiring, future-ready workspaces. The project’s innovative use of container-inspired forms and materials not only honors the legacy of shipping but also sets a new standard for functional and expressive workplace design.
