A Unique Ear Cuff and Earring Set Inspired by Nature

What sets the Morning Butterfly design apart is its attention to detail and unique features. Kim incorporated an ear post into the design, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. The body of the butterfly is designed as a rail, allowing the wings to move freely and giving the illusion of flight. The spiral, adorned with diamonds, adds graceful movement and a touch of whimsy to the piece.

Using the latest technology, Kim brought her vision to life. The body of the butterfly is cast in rose gold, while the remaining parts are created in white gold. The stones on the butterfly are pear-shaped Rhodolite melee, complemented by various-sized diamonds on the spiral. The design also incorporates chains and bezel-set pear-shaped moonstones, representing the misty haze of the early morning.

The Morning Butterfly ear cuff measures 34mm x 22mm x 160mm, while the earring is 30mm x 30mm x 94mm. The cuff is connected to the earring back by soldering the chain to the post, ensuring a secure fit. The back of the butterfly wing moves freely and comfortably inside the rail, while the flower with the pistil acts as a rivet, allowing the spiral and chains to spin and move.

Creating the Morning Butterfly design presented its challenges. Kim had to transform her vision into a wearable piece that accurately represented the shape and movement of a butterfly. Incorporating movement into the ear cuff design was also a challenge, but one that Kim successfully overcame. The final challenge was to create a piece that was not only visually stunning but also comfortable to wear. Through careful design and craftsmanship, Kim achieved all of these goals.

Wonhee Kim completed the Morning Butterfly design in February 2020 in Carlsbad, CA, USA. Her research involved studying the shape and movement of butterflies, as well as designing a piece that was intricate, classic, fine, and balanced. The result is a truly unique and captivating jewelry design.
