Grand Children Palace: A Unique Early Learning Center

Creating a Spacious and Innovative Environment for Children

Inspired by the iconic Grand Palais in Paris, Royin Studio sought to create a learning center that would provide ample space for future events and playgrounds. By taking advantage of the spacious open area in the center, the design not only saves costs for clients but also offers a better business plan for promotion and a more ideal space for hosting events and classes.

The unique cross-shaped open space in the middle of the center allows for endless possibilities. Teachers and external organizations can utilize this area to hold events and classes, fostering a collaborative and dynamic learning environment.

The Grand Children Palace stands out with its emphasis on safety and comfort. The design incorporates small holes throughout the space, encouraging children to explore and play while ensuring their well-being. The materials used, including eco emulsion paint, wood veneer, oak floor, and ceramic tiles, contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere.

With a net area of 680 square meters, the Grand Children Palace is a renovation project that transformed an old factory space into an educational haven. The design team, consisting of Roy Yin, He Sen, Tingkui Zhou, Diana Liang, Liu Yan, and Huiyun Miao, successfully transformed the space into a vibrant and functional learning center.

Unlike traditional learning centers, the Grand Children Palace promotes interaction and creativity. The interconnected activity spaces and central open scape minimize obstacles such as doors and walls, creating a sense of transparency and encouraging students and teachers to engage with the functions of the spaces and each other.

The project, which started in April 2018 and was completed in August 2018, is located in Guangzhou, China. It was born out of the need for early learning centers that go beyond separate classrooms and provide children with a sense of freedom and limitless possibilities.

Overcoming challenges such as poor factory conditions and inadequate fire protection, the design team reconstructed the ceiling and ensured the facility met all safety requirements within a limited budget.

Grand Children Palace, with its innovative design and emphasis on open space, offers a refreshing approach to early education. By providing a platform for children to learn, play, and interact, this learning center sets a new standard for educational environments.
