Award-winning DAB Internet Radio Blends Authenticity and Innovation

Ahmet Burak Veyisoglu, the designer behind Model One, drew inspiration from the timeless elegance of wood. He aimed to create a design that subtly incorporates technology, maintaining the material's authenticity and charm. The result is a unique DAB internet radio that seamlessly blends traditional and modern elements.

Model One stands out with its unique properties. The body, made of a specific type of wood, enhances the sound quality by allowing for a thicker cabinet. The control panel and back cover, made of ABS plastic, contrast with the wooden body, adding a modern touch. The radio also features a wireless charging pad for mobile phones, encouraging long hours of music enjoyment and bringing the radio back to the center of life.

The design process involved extensive research, including an email-based online survey and online interviews. Feedback from these studies highlighted the need for increased visibility of the "wood feeling" and the ability to charge mobile devices while using the radio. These insights were incorporated into the design, resulting in a product that meets the specific needs of its target users.

Creating a unique design in a market saturated with similar wooden radios was a significant challenge. Achieving the right balance between the wood and plastic elements was crucial to the design process. The final product, with its matte, anti-glare control panel and display, emphasizes the authenticity of the wood while keeping the technology hidden.

Model One's innovative design and unique features have not gone unnoticed. In 2021, it received the Silver A' Audio and Sound Equipment Design Award, a prestigious accolade given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. This recognition underscores the radio's exceptional design quality and its potential to redefine the role of radios in modern life.
