Blue Lake County: A Tranquil Residence Showcasing Antique Charm

Transforming Space and Creating Zen

To better showcase the owner's antique collection, designer Yue Wu chose to highlight the furniture in the simplest hard fitting. The simple, tranquil, and natural Wabi-sabi style with Chinese elements are matched with antique furniture that has experienced years, thus forming its own charm and sense of Zen in the space and realizing sublimation and integration with the owner's spiritual world.

Blue Lake County, designed by Yue Wu, is a residence that stands out for its unique approach to showcasing antique charm. The project transformed the original design of the basement structure, adding sink light wells that connect with the original garden. This innovative design choice eliminates the darkness and dampness typically associated with basements, creating a bright and inviting space.

The cloisters in Blue Lake County form rings, ensuring that every corner of the floor is well-lit and free from any sense of confinement. Looking up at the sky, one can see the patio at the top of the mountain pine, creating a stunning visual contrast with the water scene below. This design feature adds a touch of natural beauty to the space, enhancing the overall ambiance.

The materials used in the realization of Blue Lake County include KD board, log, latex paint, and antique bricks. The design also incorporates built-in kick threads, invisible air conditioning outlets, and ceiling shrinkage joints, showcasing the attention to detail and craftsmanship that went into creating this unique residence.

Covering an area of 1100 square meters, Blue Lake County offers a natural, simple, clean, bright, and comfortable living environment. It successfully solves the challenges of dampness, inadequate daylighting, and inefficient use of space. The transformation not only retains the original memories of the space but also provides a platform to showcase the owner's individual collection, including Chinese-style traditional furniture.

In the new space, the traditional living room has been replaced by a calligraphy, painting, and tea room, reflecting the owner's personal preferences. These two spaces are located on separate floors, providing solitude and a reception area for friends. Additionally, the design includes a space for family members to communicate and chat, fostering a sense of togetherness.

Blue Lake County was completed in December 2019 in Yu Bei, Chongqing, China. The design process involved extensive research to simplify the complex and create the most comfortable living space. The project overcame the challenge of incorporating Chinese-style traditional furniture without creating a sense of heaviness or depression.

This outstanding design by Yue Wu has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award celebrates designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills while contributing to quality of life improvements. Blue Lake County is a testament to the fusion of art, science, design, and technology, making it a truly remarkable residence.
