One Avenue Center: A Shimmering Beacon of Urban Renewal

Yanchih Wang's Award-Winning Lighting Design Transforms Shenzhen's Largest Mall

Yanchih Wang's innovative lighting design for the One Avenue Center in Shenzhen, China, has transformed the city's largest commercial mall into a dazzling spectacle. Inspired by the scales of a fish, the building's facade is a dynamic display of light and color, creating a vibrant and prosperous atmosphere in the heart of Shenzhen's urban jungle.

The One Avenue Center is part of the first urban village renovation project in Futian, Shenzhen. The facade of the building, designed by Yanchih Wang and his team, is composed of 5495 pieces of customized metal aluminum plates. These plates, each slightly folded in half to form two triangular surfaces, are lit from behind to create a wave-like lighting effect. The result is a stunning visual display that resembles a floating, colorful ribbon, adding a touch of elegance and vibrancy to the city's concrete landscape.

The inspiration for the facade's design came from the scales of a fish. The team wanted to create a contrast between the bright and dark sides of each scale, stimulating sensory memory and creating a prosperous scene for the commercial block. To achieve this, they had to customize a new type of LED flood light, as there were no suitable RGB flood lights available on the market. After several research and development experiments, they finally created a lamp with the desired parameters, using neutrals and pink as the main color tones for the facade lighting.

The project was not without its challenges. From concept to implementation, the team needed the trust and cooperation of clients, architects, engineers, and manufacturers. They also had to overcome the technical hurdle of finding a suitable light for the facade. After a long research and development process, they finally produced a flood light with the parameters 48W-RGBW/1500mm/DMX, which delivered an ethereal and attractive rolling lighting scenery.

The One Avenue Center is a testament to the power of innovative design and technology. Its unique lighting design not only enhances the building's architectural features but also creates a strong commercial atmosphere in the district. The building's facade, with its dancing lights and vibrant hues, is like a soft chromatic ribbon fluttering and dancing in the sky, adding a touch of tenderness to the architecture of the city.

The project was completed in November 2019 and has since become a landmark in Futian CBD, Shenzhen. The One Avenue Center was awarded Silver in A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2021, a testament to Yanchih Wang's outstanding expertise and innovation in lighting design. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
