A Unique Art Deco-Inspired Commercial Space by Feng Ya Wu

In the bustling city of Taipei, a new dining experience awaits those seeking a blend of elegance, vintage charm, and mouth-watering cuisine. Mori Green Memory, designed by Feng Ya Wu, is a commercial space that breaks away from traditional Japanese-style yakiniku restaurants, offering a unique Art Deco-inspired atmosphere that transports guests to the glamorous era of the 1920s and 1930s.

The design team behind Mori Green Memory drew inspiration from the historical context and cultural characteristics of the site. With delicate design thinking and exquisite craftsmanship, they created a spatial appearance that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding streetscape. The exterior of the building exudes an elegant European charm, inviting passersby to take a stroll down its transparent and beautifully designed facade, reminiscent of a European street.

What sets Mori Green Memory apart from other yakiniku restaurants is its departure from the conventional Japanese aesthetic. Embracing the opulence of the Art Deco style, the interior space showcases deep and dark colors, metal decorations, and LED light bars, creating a refined and vintage atmosphere. The design seamlessly blends classic aesthetics with contemporary elements, playing with geometric shapes, fine craftsmanship, and vibrant colors synonymous with the Art Deco movement.

The realization of Mori Green Memory involved the use of various materials, including metal HPL, hollow boards, iron, titanium plate gold, marble tables, plastic aluminum plates, hexagonal floor tiles, and terrazzo. These materials were carefully selected and combined to bring the design vision to life.

The commercial space spans approximately 231 square meters and features a well-thought-out layout. It includes a reception area, dining area, VIP section, bar area, kitchen, toilets, and a comfortable waiting area. The design team prioritized creating a comfortable dining environment by re-planning the space, ensuring smooth circulation and proper seating distribution to maximize customer capacity.

Mori Green Memory was completed in June 2019 in Taipei City, Taiwan. Throughout the project, the design team conducted extensive research to incorporate the elegance of European streets and the refined atmosphere of the 1920s and 1930s. The result is a unique dining experience that merges the old and the new, capturing the essence of the Art Deco style.

Despite the challenges of working on a commercial space, the design team successfully navigated the construction schedule, ensuring timely completion. Additionally, they addressed issues such as water leakage in the kitchen area, taking necessary measures to maintain the health and safety of the site.

Mori Green Memory stands as a testament to the design team's meticulous attention to detail and their ability to create a space that is both visually stunning and functional. The exterior facade, with its white walls, orange doors, and transparent glass windows, exudes an air of elegance and quality. The design seamlessly integrates into the local area, contributing to its developed and exotic atmosphere, and providing a unique and captivating experience for the local community.

This design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
