Golden Harvest V Walk Cinema

A Fusion of Deco and Bauhaus Styles

Golden Harvest V Walk Cinema, designed by Natalie Chan and Louisa Tong, draws inspiration from train stations to create a unique cinematic experience. The fusion of Deco and Bauhaus styles is evident throughout the design, with bold patterns and up-scaled features reminiscent of a station lobby.

Situated in West Kowloon, Hong Kong, Golden Harvest V Walk Cinema is located in a newly-opened shopping mall that caters to a young and affluent demographic. The designers, ARTTA, aimed to transport viewers on an enchanting 80's train journey through their cinema experience.

The cinema houses have been meticulously designed with different styles, using a color palette of grey and beige fabrics and carpet. To create a distinct character for each house, a touch of blue suede has been incorporated, representing different destinations along the train journey.

The entrance lobby serves as a grand welcome, featuring bold patterns and a captivating ceiling design. It sets the stage for the cinematic experience, evoking the feeling of entering a train station. Moving through the corridor, viewers are transported onto the train, with the space serving as a transit platform before entering the individual cinema houses.

One of the key challenges in the design was maintaining a balance between creating an eye-catching interior while ensuring it didn't distract the audience during the movie. The limited headroom in the space required careful consideration. To address this, the designers created different ambiences and moods in each area. The lobby is the brightest zone, while the corridor acts as a transition space and secondary lobby. Inside the cinema houses, unique graphics and patterns adorn the walls, creating an art-like exhibition before the movie begins.

The technical specifications of Golden Harvest V Walk Cinema include a gross floor area of 1500 square meters, five cinema houses, and a total of 419 seats. The project was completed in late 2019 in V Walk Shopping Mall, Hong Kong.

Golden Harvest V Walk Cinema has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

With its fusion of Deco and Bauhaus styles, Golden Harvest V Walk Cinema offers a truly unique cinematic experience. The design transports viewers on an enchanting train journey, with each cinema house representing a different destination. From the grand entrance lobby to the art-like exhibitions within the cinema houses, every aspect of the design contributes to an immersive and memorable experience for moviegoers.
