Morok: A Mystical Twist on the Classic Social Deduction Game

Unleash the Power of the Inquisition or Embrace the Demons of Japanese Mythology

Inspired by the enigmatic world of The Doomed City by the Strugatsky brothers, designer Egor Signiienko introduces Morok, a visually stunning and immersive social deduction game. With its unique mystical style and captivating characters, Morok breathes new life into the popular genre, offering players a premium gaming experience like no other.

For fans of social deduction games like Mafia and Werewolf, Morok presents a fresh and exciting twist. Drawing inspiration from esoteric and mysterious Tarot cards, the game transports players to a world where they can assume the roles of the Holy Inquisition, the Plague Doctor, or even become possessed by the demons of Japanese mythology.

What sets Morok apart from other games in the genre is its attention to visual detail. While previous versions of similar games have opted for simplicity, Morok aims to create a premium product that players would be proud to own or gift to others. The cards feature authentic and intricate designs, inspired by occult symbols and ancient mysticism, giving the game a truly immersive and engaging atmosphere.

The realization of Morok involved a combination of traditional and digital techniques. The characters were brought to life through 3D graphics, while other elements were meticulously crafted using fountain pens, gold leaf, pencils, and pastels. The result is a collection of visually stunning and authentic images that capture the essence of the game's mystical theme.

Morok consists of 16 cards, each measuring 89x146mm. The cards are printed on high-quality cardboard, with full-color printing, selective lacquer, and gold foil accents. The box itself is also crafted from cardboard, featuring foil impressions, blind embossing, and full-color printing. Every aspect of the design, from the cards to the packaging, exudes a sense of luxury and attention to detail.

In terms of gameplay, Morok offers an immersive and strategic experience. Players are divided into two groups, with each player assuming a specific role. The game progresses through night and day phases, where players can utilize their unique superpowers and engage in discussions to deduce the identities of their opponents. The game continues until either the citizens eliminate the inquisition or the inquisition kills all the citizens, adding an element of suspense and strategy to every session.

The Morok project began in June 2020 and was completed in December 2020 in Kiev, Ukraine. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to ensure historical accuracy and authenticity. The designer delved into various historical sources and texts, such as "Archaic Myths of the East and the West" and "Encyclopedia of Classical Mythology," to gather information about the characters and their roles in the game.

Despite the challenges faced during the project, including the analysis of historical data and the integration of characters from different countries and epochs into a cohesive visual concept, Morok emerged as a testament to the designer's creativity and dedication. The result is a game that not only engages players but also immerses them in a world of mystery and intrigue.

With its unique blend of art, design, and gameplay, Morok has received recognition for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. The design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Toys, Games, and Hobby Products category in 2021. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate technical and creative excellence, contributing to the improvement of quality of life.

Experience the allure of Morok and embark on a journey of deduction, strategy, and mysticism. Whether you're a seasoned social deduction game enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, Morok promises an unforgettable gaming experience that will leave you craving for more.
