Living The Noom: A New Paradigm in Sustainable Housing

Sanzpont Arquitectura's Award-Winning Design Revolutionizes Real Estate

Living The Noom, an innovative housing project by Sanzpont Arquitectura, redefines sustainable living. The design, which won the Platinum A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, is a testament to the future of housing, integrating wellness, sustainability, and flexible living into a single, cohesive concept.

The inspiration for Living The Noom came from a simple question: "Where would you like to live for the rest of your life?" The project aims to provide a unique housing proposal that promotes a full life within its users, creating a community that values nature, art, and animals. It is a departure from the monotonous, cookie-cutter homes that dominate the real estate market, offering a sanctuary of conscious living.

Living The Noom is built on three main pillars: Wellness Living, Sustainability, and Flexible Living. Wellness Living focuses on designing spaces and amenities that prevent health problems and cultivate healthier habits. Sustainability is achieved through passive and bioclimatic design, reducing the use of resources. Flexible Living is realized through an open-plan building that can be configured in multiple ways to satisfy different needs.

The project integrates bioclimatic and sustainable strategies such as rainwater harvesting, wastewater separation, greywater treatment, and the use of biodigesters and compost areas. It also features a vegetation cover that creates a barrier for pollution and reduces the Heat Island effect. Digital simulation is used to determine the best areas for solar protection elements and solar panels, resulting in an impressive 85% energy savings.

The design consists of three five-story buildings, each with a concrete structure and an independent bamboo facade. Each floor is an open space that can be configured in various ways. The apartments range from 60 to 120 square meters, with options for one, two, or three bedrooms. The project occupies just 30% of its 2046 square meter lot, preserving much of the existing vegetation and restoring 2,500 square meters of removed vegetation through green roofs and facades.

The design phase of the project began in 2020, with construction set to begin in June 2021 in Cancun, Mexico. The project is designed to be replicated on different lots, flexible enough to adopt different configurations while ensuring optimal natural ventilation. The main challenge was to create a new housing proposal that balanced sustainable and wellness features with a low density and low land occupancy percentage, all while maintaining an affordable and competitive price in the real estate market.

Living The Noom is a testament to the future of housing, a project that puts the environment, health, and affordability on equal footing. It is a new housing concept that offers wellness and sustainable features that benefit both health and the environment. With its open-plan design that can be configured in multiple ways, it satisfies a variety of needs and preferences. This is the future of housing, a future where wellness, sustainability, and flexibility are not just buzzwords, but integral aspects of everyday living.
