Miniature Size Landscape: A Dwarf's World Through the Lens

Photographer Katsuhiro Ohkuchi's Unique Perspective on Nature

Ohkuchi's journey began as a student, when he sought to capture landscapes that no one had seen before. The answer, he realized, lay not in distant, exotic locations, but in the familiar landscapes at our feet. Drawing from his childhood imagination of a small dwarf's adventures in a park, Ohkuchi decided to recreate this perspective through his camera lens.

Using a combination of wide macro lenses, deep focus stacking, linear perspective, occlusive perspective, aerial perspective, and the deja vu effect, Ohkuchi has developed a unique photography technique that makes small worlds look vast and expansive. The result is a series of stunning images that depict a dwarf's journey through a world of grasses, mosses, flowers, and other plants.

Ohkuchi's work is not just about creating beautiful images; it's also about raising environmental awareness. By showcasing the beauty of the small world at our feet, he hopes to inspire people to be kinder to nature. As he puts it, "no one will throw trash on the world after seeing his work."

Ohkuchi's "Miniature Size Landscape" project, which started in 2010, has been recognized for its originality and impact. In 2021, it received the Golden A' Photography and Photo Manipulation Design Award, a prestigious accolade granted to "marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom."
