Nibbiorosso: The Futuristic Electric MTB Designed by Marco Naccarella

Revolutionizing Mountain Biking with Innovative Design

Designed by Marco Naccarella, the Nibbiorosso is an electric mountain bike (MTB) that pushes the boundaries of design and functionality. With its modular features and cutting-edge technology, this bike offers a unique riding experience for outdoor enthusiasts.

The inspiration for the Nibbiorosso came from a continued research project, combining individual research and brainstorming on CAD software. The goal was to create a design that was abstract, futuristic, and offered an alternative to existing products in the market.

What sets the Nibbiorosso apart is its emphasis on modularity. The bike is powered by a 2.8kw 72v electric battery with a maximum torque of 160Nm. It can be operated both on and off-road, thanks to its 2 front gears and 11 gears in the rear. The integrated circuitry allows for easy removal of the battery with a simple double action, and the engine can be detached by removing the right pedal, transforming the bike into a traditional pedal-powered bicycle. The separate controller box also facilitates future battery installations.

The Nibbiorosso is constructed using a combination of carbon fiber, steel, chromed steel, aluminum alloys, ABS, plastic, and rubber. Its technical specifications include a wheel size of 29x2.3 inches, a carbon fiber frame, a wheelbase of 1229mm in the L version, and a head tube angle of 66 degrees. The bike features a carbon handlebar with 6 degrees upsweep and 8 degrees backsweep, measuring 800mm. The front forks have a diameter of 40mm, a 44mm offset, and provide 170mm of travel. The rear shock offers 2 position adjustments for high and low-speed rebound and compression.

Operating the Nibbiorosso is intuitive and user-friendly. The electric power can be activated with a twist of the handlebar, propelling the rider forward. However, the bike can also be transformed into a regular pedal-powered bicycle. By unscrewing the bolt on the right pedal arm, the circular disc that connects the battery power can be removed. Additionally, the battery pack can be easily detached using a key lock with a simple double-action. The integrated circuitry and dedicated controller box ensure quick conversions to electric power when reapplying the battery.

The Nibbiorosso project began in Montecatini Terme and lasted approximately a year, starting in February 2020. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the work remained solely in Montecatini Terme. Although there were interruptions in the design process between March and June 2020, the project compensated with more intense research and design afterwards.

Marco Naccarella's research for the Nibbiorosso focused on pioneering concepts within the E-bike market. The aim was to enhance user-friendliness and simplicity while advancing the E-bike and mountain bike markets. Overcoming challenges in designing the rear frame suspension system and ensuring component safety and reliability were crucial for the success of the design.

The Nibbiorosso has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Vehicle, Mobility, and Transportation Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit technical and creative excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.

With its futuristic design, modularity, and innovative features, the Nibbiorosso is a game-changer in the world of mountain biking. Marco Naccarella's vision and dedication have resulted in a bike that combines style, functionality, and sustainability, offering an exhilarating riding experience for outdoor enthusiasts.
